Full course description

Use of Data in Modern Manufacturing

Who is this for?

This is an introductory level course for those interested in starting or continuing a career in manufacturing. A college degree is not required to take this course.

Course Overview

This 4-week, entry-level course introduces learners to the importance of data in modern manufacturing processes. Participants will explore key concepts such as data collection, visualization, analysis, and decision-making. By understanding how data drives business and process improvements, you’ll gain insights into the types of data used on the manufacturing floor and how it is applied to improve efficiency, product quality, and cost management.

What to Expect

In this course, you’ll engage with videos, readings, and interactive tasks to explore data’s role in manufacturing. Each week focuses on different aspects of data, including common data types, how to visualize and interpret data, and how to use data for decision-making. You’ll complete assignments like analyzing data from manufacturing settings, performing unit conversions, and discussing quality control in modern industries.

Time Commitment

Learners should anticipate dedicating roughly 15 hours over a 4-week period for this course. Each week, participants will engage in readings, watch instructional videos, complete assignments, and interact live with our faculty experts, averaging about 3-5 hours per week. Additionally, we offer the flexibility to watch recorded sessions with our experts, ensuring optimal convenience for all learners.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this micro-credential you will be able to:

  • Identify common sources of data in manufacturing systems and explain their importance.
  • Describe and convert common manufacturing measurements and units.
  • Interpret data from graphs, readouts, and operator interfaces to visualize key manufacturing processes.
  • Use data to make informed decisions about product quality, troubleshooting, and process improvements.

Instructor
