Communication for Technical Professionals
Who is this for?
This is an introductory level course for those who are or want to be technical professionals and hope to expand their communication skills and competencies. A college degree is not required to take this course. This iteration of the course is tailored to those in the manufacturing setting.
Course Overview
This entry-level 4-week course provides an accessible and engaging introduction to communication skills in professional contexts. In the first half of our communication course, you will build confidence in your communication skills by mastering key concepts and their workplace applications. Starting with the communication model, you will understand why miscommunication occurs and how to minimize it. You will develop active listening skills and learn to choose the appropriate communication channel for different situations. Additionally, you will learn to develop and support clear ideas. The second half of the course focuses on applying these skills in professional contexts. You will learn to structure and write professional emails and create effective presentations with concise content, impactful visuals, and engaging delivery.
What to Expect
In this course, you will build knowledge and self-awareness, reflecting on your learnings to apply them to your individual situation. Each week, you will engage with course readings and videos that explain communication concepts. These concepts will be applied within technical organizations throughout the course.
Time Commitment
Learners should anticipate dedicating roughly 15 hours over a 4-week period for this course. Each week, participants will engage in readings, watch instructional videos, complete assignments, and interact live with our faculty experts, averaging about 3-5 hours per week. Additionally, we offer the flexibility to watch recorded sessions with our experts, ensuring optimal convenience for all learners.
